Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) Grand Opening Ceremony + Subnework Meeting Report

We attended to the UNESCO Design Cities Sub-network Meeting held concurrently with the opening ceremony of a newly built Dongdaemun Design Plaza and Park in Seoul. The Mayor of Seoul and the representatives from design promotion organizations/bodies and the cities of design from all over the world were invited to celebrate its grand opening. In the sub-network meeting the attendees reported their individual activities, and discussed not only the feasibilities of information sharing of individual cities’ future projects but also of collaborative projects involving the exchange activity among member cities.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP):
The construction of the DDP designed/supervised by architect Zaha Hadit took five years. The grand-scale facilities managed by Seoul Design Foundation are expected to play a significant role as a platform for the development of creative industries including design discipline.
