International Design Forum
“Our Mission as UNESCO City of Design, Nagoya”

160 people attended the International Design Forum. In Forum Part 1, members of UNESCO Creative Cities of Design made a presentation about their initiatives. Through the presentation, we studied what was done in their cities and shared the their unique ideas such as the program to develop creative human resources, the design biennale, the prize awarded for young designers, and the effective utilization of the design in the public space. These ideas serves as a useful reference for thinking about the future activity as UNESCO City of Design, Nagoya.

In Forum Part 2, we announced the logo of “Nagoya, UNESCO city of Design”, which had been selected in the competition in February 2015. Mr. Akio Ogawa, who had designed the logo mark, explained the new logo concept. We held a public talk by the logo designers, the judge of the competition, and a member of a citizens’ organization. We talked about how to use the new logo to create a civic pride as the UNESCO City of Design. Through the advanced examples of Montreal, we studied that the logo of the design city is utilized in various scenes. There is a great expectation in the successful development of the new logo from now on.
