Creative Design City Nagoya is performing various projects to foster human resources with rich creativity and to realize a sustainable society.
From the 2010 fiscal year, Nagoya City has held more projects to promote design than ever before. We are integrating this various projects and developing promotional projects of Creative Design City Nagoya.
Main Projects for 2010
Communication Exchanges with UNESCO Creative Cities
We will participate in sub-network meetings organized by cities that are appointed as design cities, including UNESCO Creative Cities Network meetings. We will also participate in preparation for cooperative events between different cities, such as exchanging information and performing surveys.
CODE Poster Design Competition

International Design Center NAGOYA, Design Gallery - Content:
- A joint project by seven cities of Buenos Aires, Berlin, Kobe, Montréal, Nagoya, Shanghai and Shenzhen which are designated as UNESCO Cities of Design.
A Poster Design Competition for designers will be held in order to make the Cities of Design known to more people and to deepen the awareness of each city regarding its own status as a City of Design.
International New Designers Workshop

- Content:
- This workshop has been held since 2000 for young designers from all over the world who are leaders of the next generation, for young creators of companies, and for researchers and students from universities.
This year, there is a plan for participation by domestic and international students and young designers, including award-winners of NAGOYA DESIGN DO! 2010.
International Competition
The 7th International Design Competition:
NAGOYA DESIGN DO! 2010
- Content:
- This competition has been held every two years to provide an opportunity for young designers to develop their skills and exchange ideas. The most outstanding works will be selected and awarded. The winners will be invited to participate in a workshop held here to deepen exchanges with young designers from around the world.
- Theme:
- Design to Empower Tomorrow
- Applicant qualification:
- Application is possible by any individual or group between the ages of 18 and 34.
- Works qualified for entry:
- Only new works that have not yet been made public can be submitted.
All areas of design are applicable for entry. Innovative design based on the competition theme is encouraged.
There are 4 application divisions. - Prize and Prize Money:
- Grand Prix (1 award): 1 million yen
Division Prize (4 award): 100,000 yen each
Grand Prix and Division Prize winners will be invited to the International New Designers Workshop - First Screening:

The Design Education Projects
- Period:
- February 2011 (provisional)
- Content:
- This project will utilize the design ability of local design groups to hold exhibitions and workshops for ordinary citizens such as parents and children. The project will allow children to experience the joy of design by encountering the skill of professional designers and by making their own designs in workshops.
