The purpose of this event was “My public” where everyone’s “individual” creativity appears in the town.

Artist Statement

“A New Little Circus Put on by All”
“My Publicers,” or those who enjoy giving away things and experiences for free, gather at a “Nagoya Public Circus” that everyone—whether performers or audience members—can enjoy together. With Coffee on the House, a 0-yen shop, garland crafting, a DJ, new-style “gacha-gacha” capsule toy vending machines, and more, participants can rewrite their relationship with Nagoya through little encounters, conversations, and experiences.

GROUND LEVEL (Tanaka Motoko, Onishi Masaki)

Communication Design / Town Planning

Tanaka Motoko, who is self-taught in architecture, and Onishi Masaki, who after graduating from graduate school worked at a design office in London, established the creative unit “mosaki” in 2004 with the aim of connecting architecture to the general public.
Since then, the duo has gone on to produce books and other media, with Tanaka as writer/architectural communicator and Onishi as editor/designer. Since 2010, they have participated in the “Architectural Gymnastics” workshop. Since 2014, they have shifted to projects more directly related to towns, cities, and people with workshops held around Japan, including “Urban Camp,” where campsites are set up at unused urban sites, and “Personal Yatai” stalls, where individuals give away things to people on the street for free.
In 2016, they established Ground Level Inc. In 2018, they opened “Kissa Laundry,” attracting attention both in Japan and from abroad.
Major publications include “My Public and Ground Level: Community Development Starts Today” (Author: Tanaka Motoko, Shobunsha, 2017).
