Held in the Nayabashi Bridge Area, this talk paired Sawa Hiraki, an artist who exhibited in two formats, screening and installation, and Akiba Fuminori, a researcher specializing in aesthetics and co-director of this event. Based on the keywords “sense of time and place,” this discussion delved even further into the works’ attractions, covering topics such as what “the present” in time means, why Sawa’s work rotates, the relationship between nostalgia and place, and Sawa’s expression, “as a thing like an illusion.”

Guest

Sawa Hiraki

Born in Ishikawa Prefecture in 1977. After graduating from high school, Sawa studied in England, earning a Master’s degree in sculpture from University College London’s Slade School of Fine Art.
With the help of a friend who used computer animation software, he started working on video pieces. In recent years, he has been working on pieces in which the spatial composition captures the arrangement of the images in a sculptural manner, compositions juxtaposing three-dimensional and two-dimensional works, and other works in which the domains of the video and the exhibition space intersect. Sawa has exhibited and earned high praise around the world.
